Bausch + Lomb: Biotrue Multi-purpose Solution

Disinfection and Clinical Isolates

Biotrue® delivers unsurpassed disinfection efficacy

Unsurpassed disinfection efficacy against a full range of microbes

  • While used for measuring safety and efficacy, lab-adapted microbes and standard testing conditions provide an assessment of lens care performance.
  • In addition, Biotrue has been tested against a broad range of bacteria and fungi collected from clinically worn lenses, lens cases, and infected eyes.
  • Achieves consistently high log reductions against S. aureus, MRSA (methicillin-resistant S. aureus), and F. solani.
Biotrue is also effective against Acanthamoeba2

1 Results of in vitro study following FDA/ISO stand-alone procedure for disinfecting products. Log reduction values at a minimum soak time without organic soil. Solutions were tested against several strains of S. aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, and F. solani. Vertical bars depict mean log reduction and plotted points depict log reductions against individual clinical isolate strains measured after manufacturers' recommended disinfecting time (soak only). Biotrue, Clear Care, RevitaLens OcuTec, and OPTI-FREE PureMoist results from separate in vitro study performed following identical test procedures. This test is not required by FDA and ISO standards.

2 There are no FDA/ISO guidelines for testing lens care solutions against Acanthamoeba.

3 Results of in vitro study to evaluate the ability of multi-purpose solution disinfection efficacy against Acanthamoeba castellanii (ATCC 30868) and Acanthamoeba polyphaga trophozoites and cysts. Although no FDA/ISO guidelines currently exist for testing lens care sovlutions against Acanthamoeba, this stand-alone test was conducted following FDA/ISO procedures as a model to evaluate the inherent microbial activity of a solution within the manufacturers' recommended disinfecting time (soak only).
